A digital signature is an electronic signature generated to establish the identity of the digital signature holder and issued by Licensed Certifying Authorities like (n)Code Solutions. It can be used to authenticate electronic documents like email or signing your electronically generated Income Tax Return similar to signing an Income tax return in paper form.

| What is (n)Tax? |
(n)Tax is a Class IIa digital signature and is valid for one year. It has been designed for Taxsmile.com users by our partner (n)Code Solutions, a division of GNFC Ltd. It can be used by a person for submitting an Income Tax Return electronically, instead of signing an income tax return in paper form which needs to be physically filed with Income tax department.
Use of digital signatures is possible in India now that the Digital Signature Legislation has been put in place, granting digital signatures issued by a licensed Certifying Authority the same status as a physical signature. A digital signature is issued by a Certification Authority (CA).
A digital signature typically contains the: Owner's public key, the Owner's name, Expiration Date of the public key, the Name of the issuer (the CA that issued the Digital ID), Serial Number of the digital signature, and the digital signature of the issuer. |
